The Pokémon Company has announced the return of Mega Evolutions in the TCG, introducing updated mechanics that differ from the original implementation. This revival brings fresh dynamics to gameplay, offering both nostalgia and innovation for players.

New Mega Evolution Mechanics

In this updated version, Mega Evolution Pokémon ex will:

• Prize Card Impact: When a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, the opponent takes three Prize cards, similar to the VMAX mechanic.

• Evolution Stages: Unlike the original mechanic where Mega Evolutions evolved directly from Basic Pokémon-EX, the new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex will evolve from their respective pre-evolved forms. For instance:

  • Mega Lucario ex: Evolves from Riolu.

  • Mega Gardevoir ex: Evolves from Kirlia.

This change emphasizes traditional evolutionary lines, adding depth to deck-building strategies.

Card Highlights

• Mega Lucario ex: A Fighting-type Pokémon boasting 340 HP.

  • Aura Jab: Deals 130 damage and allows attachment of up to three Basic Fighting Energy cards from the discard pile to your Benched Pokémon.

  • Mega Brave: Delivers a powerful 270 damage, with the drawback of being unusable on the next turn.

• Mega Gardevoir ex: A Psychic-type Pokémon with 360 HP.

  • Overflowing Wishes: For each Benched Pokémon, search your deck for a Basic Psychic Energy and attach it to that Pokémon.

  • Mega Symphonia: Inflicts 50x damage for each Psychic Energy attached to all your Pokémon.
