JustInBasil’s Legacy in the World of Pokémon TCG
The Pokemon Trading Card Game community is mourning the loss of Jason Kingsford, known online as JustInBasil, who passed away unexpectedly on 25 July 2025 at the age of 36.
Though we at OBSIDIA TCG did not know Jason personally, we recognise the enormous contributions he made to the TCG community worldwide. He was a respected League Organiser, Judge, and High School Teacher based in San Antonio, Texas. Many players of all abilities benefited from his expertise and dedication through his website JustInBasil.com, a widely-used resource for deckbuilding tools, translations, and competitive analysis.
Jason was also the creator of the Eternal Format—an unofficial Unlimited format designed to let players enjoy decks built from across Pokémon TCG’s 26-year history. He personally built and provided these decks for others to experience, making the format accessible and inclusive. His passion extended beyond gameplay. He was a mentor to new players, a supporter of local events, and a familiar name on online forums where his posts were both informative and kind.
His passing is a loss not only to those who knew him, but to every member of the Pokémon TCG scene who has benefitted from his knowledge, generosity, and community-building spirit.
A fundraiser has been established to help cover funeral costs and to support Jason’s family. The campaign has already received an overwhelming response, which is a testament to how many lives he touched. Those who wish to support his loved ones or share memories can do so through community forums or the memorial page that has been set up in his honour.
We encourage anyone who is able to make a donation here: https://gofund.me/a50c31a0
We extend our sincere condolences to Jason’s family, friends, and local community. His impact on the Pokémon TCG world will not be forgotten.
